Bandit 15 inch wood chipper at work, available to rent from ACT
Bandit 12, 15, and 18 inch wood chippers and SG-40 and SG-75 stump grinders rent from ACT, a Bandit dealer serving the Carolinas.
Quick Answer

ACT rents Bandit wood chippers for $400 to $1,600 a day, $1,100 to $5,000 a week, or $3,300 to $14,000 a month, and Bandit stump grinders for $375 to $600 a day, before delivery. Pick the chipper by the largest material you will feed it, and rent the grinder for the stumps the chipper leaves behind. Call 800.462.2447 for availability.

ACT is a Bandit dealer serving North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, and the rental fleet carries the chippers and grinders tree crews, land clearers, and municipalities ask for most. Every machine goes out serviced with sharp knives and teeth, and ships from the Charlotte branch to jobsites across the Carolinas. Rates are current and the same at every ACT branch.

Wood chipper rental rates

MachineDayWeekMonth
Bandit 12 in wood chipper for rent from ACTBandit 12 in wood chipper$400$1,100$3,300
Bandit 15 in wood chipper for rent from ACTBandit 15 in wood chipper$1,000$2,500$7,500
Bandit 18 in wood chipper for rent from ACTBandit 18 in wood chipper$1,600$5,000$14,000

The number is the largest diameter the chipper will take. The 12 inch handles residential tree work and storm cleanup; the 15 inch is the all-around crew machine for limbs and small trunks; the 18 inch is for whole-tree and land-clearing volume. If most of the material is under 10 inches, the 12 inch does the job.

Stump grinder rental rates

MachineDayWeekMonth
Bandit SG-40 stump grinder for rent from ACTBandit SG-40 stump grinder$375$1,100$2,000
Bandit SG-75 stump grinder for rent from ACTBandit SG-75 stump grinder$600$1,500$5,000

The SG-40 is a compact self-propelled grinder for residential stumps and tight yards. The SG-75 is the production machine: more horsepower, a wider cut, and the speed to clear a lot of stumps in a day.

Chipper, grinder, or mulcher

  • Chipper: you are cutting trees and limbs and need to get rid of the brush. The material goes in by hand or by loader and comes out as chips you can haul or spread.
  • Stump grinder: the tree is down and the stump is in the way. The grinder cuts it below grade so you can fill and plant over it.
  • Mulcher: you are clearing acreage of brush and small trees standing, not cutting them first. A mulching head on a track loader or excavator shreds it in place. ACT rents the TL12 with a mulching head for clearing from the ground and the TB290 with a mulching head for reach.

Many clearing jobs rent two of the three: a chipper for the trees worth cutting and a grinder for the stumps, or a mulcher for the brush and a chipper for the trunks.

What is included and what is extra

  • Included: a machine that goes out serviced and ready to work, and no repair bills for normal use. Normal wear and tear is not charged.
  • Extra: delivery and pickup, quoted by location when you book, and any attachments you add.
  • Coverage, your choice: ACT’s loss and damage waiver (LDW) added to the rental agreement, or a completed certificate of insurance (COI) from your insurance company.
  • Your responsibility: an operator (ACT does not supply operators) and damage caused by negligence.

Chippers go out with sharp knives and grinders with fresh teeth. Ask the rental desk about knife and tooth wear on a long rental; on a multi-week job a mid-rental service keeps the machine productive.

Daily, weekly, or monthly

A 12 inch chipper is $400 a day or $1,100 a week, so the week wins on day three. An SG-40 grinder is $375 a day or $1,100 a week, the same break point. Monthly rates run about three weeks’ worth.

ACT rents by the day, week, and month. On most machines a week costs about the same as three days and a month about the same as three weeks, so a job that runs past two days is usually priced by the week and a job past three weeks by the month. You do not have to get it right up front: the rental team watches active rentals and moves you to the weekly or monthly rate when that is cheaper for you. If the job runs long, keep the machine and call the rental desk; extensions are handled the same way.

Delivery across the Carolinas

Rental equipment ships from ACT’s Charlotte branch to jobsites across North Carolina and South Carolina, with pickup at the end of the rental. Delivery and pickup fees are quoted by location when you book, and the charge is the same whether the machine stays two days or two weeks, so a longer term spreads it further. You can also pick up with your own truck and trailer rated for the machine.

Ask the rental desk what your truck can tow before you plan on picking up; the larger chippers and the SG-75 need a heavier truck than most crews carry, and delivery is the simpler answer.
